WHAT DO YOU NEED TO GET STARTED:
- A Study Permit at a Designated Educational Institution (DEI).
- A Study Permit allows a foreign student to study at an accredited Canadian institution for the duration of the specified course or program.

Some exceptions where a permit is not required:
- If the duration of the program or course is less than 6 months.
- If you are a family member or staff of a foreign representative in Canada

- Be accepted by an educational institution (EED)
- Have proof that you have the monetary funds to pay your:
- Tuition
- Living expenses (you and your family if accompanied)
- Round trip travel expenses (you and your family if accompanied)
- Not have a criminal record and not be a security risk to Canada. A police certificate may be required.
- Be in good health and agree to a medical examination, if necessary.
- Promise and convince an immigration officer that you will leave Canada at the end of your authorized stay

I’m an international student. Can I continue to work after I’ve finished my study program?
According to the government website, generally, no. You must stop working once you’ve received your final grades.
You can continue to work after you finished your studies only if:
- you’ve already applied for a work permit, or
- you’re starting a new study program
I want to study in Canada for less than 6 months. Do I need a study permit?
According to the government website, you don’t need a study permit for a course or study program that lasts 6 months or less. However, getting a study permit when you don’t need one has benefits.
You still need a valid travel document (electronic travel authorization or visitor visa) to come to Canada. You must get a study permit if you want to study for longer than 6 months.
Can I have a work permit and study permit at the same time?

- be eligible for both permits
- show the officer that you can study and work at the same time

Eligibility for other programs
There are some things to know about holding 2 permits:
- The work experience you gain while you hold a study permit doesn’t count toward the work experience requirements for most permanent residence programs.
- Check the requirements for your program before you apply for permanent residence.
- If you plan to apply for a post-graduation work permit when you complete your studies, you’ll need to meet the eligibility criteria.
- For example, you must maintain full-time status during all semesters of your study program, even while working.

Do I need a medical exam to study in Canada?
According to the government website, yes, you need a medical exam to study in Canada if you:
- come from a designated country/territory for which Canada requires a visa
- will be here for more than 6 months
- are a medical student or
- will work in health care, or another field that brings you into close contact with children or the elderly
